Rebecca Hume grew up in Calgary, Canada where she studied at SAIT Polytechnic - Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, graduating with honours in 2015. With a passion for traveling, her education in hospitality and tourism left a hole in her heart which teaching would soon fill. Influenced by 2 teachers and a university professor in her family, Rebecca wanted teaching English abroad to be her vocation; something meaningful to commit herself to, while experiencing other countries and cultures along the way. She left Canada a month after her graduation and although the initial plan was to teach in multiple cities during her career, Prague has been her home ever since. This city has captured her heart and she now cannot imagine living anywhere else.
Rebecca has done several development courses over the years after becoming certified in Prague to teach English as a second language, including for Cermat certification, qualifying as an examiner for Maturita examination. She has experience teaching every age and level; from preschool through primary and secondary school, as well as teaching adults general conversation and business English. One of Rebecca’s favourite hobbies is tabletop gaming, which she has successfully applied in the classroom to help students communicate about strategy in a fun, laid back environment while developing cooperation skills in English. With a huge love for literature, she has been responsible for an elective creative writing course for teens, something she aims to implement at our school; to foster in her students the same love for reading and writing. Her philosophy with students is to teach them that language is an artform, and she believes that by giving them the tools to express and create with a new language in a safe and nurturing environment, they’ll be able to continue studying whatever and wherever they want to with confidence.
